“Night commuters” are children who walk, sometimes for miles, to reach the safety of the nearest town to sleep in shelters, free from fear of being abducted by the LRA. Abducted girls, sometimes as young as ten, are given to commanders as “wives”, raped repeatedly and forced to bear children for their captors. The majority of young women who have escaped capture have contracted sexually transmitted diseases.
